Ten days before the holding of extraordinary elections in four municipalities in the north of Kosovo, the Central Election Commission (CEC) has not yet approved the list of polling stations. Experts in this field express their doubts about the entire process, Gazeta Express reports.

So far, voting has been held in schools, but police stations are now being mentioned as possible locations that could be turned into polling stations.

According to Adnan Merovci, former executive director of the CEC, and Eugen Cakolli, representative of the non-governmental organization Democracy in Action, all of this creates doubts about the conduct of elections in four municipalities in the north.

Merovci believes it is difficult to organize free and democratic elections in the north of Kosovo, given the political situation.

"The political situation in the north is fragile, and this made it impossible for the competent institutions to complete the technical procedures for the organization of the elections on time. If the situation in the north is such that polling stations have not yet been determined, I am skeptical," Merovci said.

Cakolli says that in order to hold these elections, the CEC must soon designate polling centers so that voters can be informed of where they can vote. According to him, that process should have been completed 45 days before the elections.

"The most important thing is determining the voting centers. It is not yet known where they will be. Numerous modalities were mentioned, such as alternative centers or voting in police stations, among others," he says.
