Ceku: We will apply for UNESCO membership next year

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Hajrulla Ceku said that Kosovo would apply for UNESCO membership in the fall of next year, Lajmi reports.

"The opportunity is in the fall of next year because the UNESCO General Conference is held every two years and that is the opportunity to apply. The application for the Council of Europe, the European Union, NATO, and soon, for UNESCO are natural actions for confirming the sovereignty and independence of Kosovo," Ceku said on TV1.

He also mentioned Kosovo's request for candidate status for membership in the European Union, which would take place this month.

"I believe that according to the same logic, we should continue with UNESCO and other institutions and international organizations," Ceku said.

Kosovo's request for membership in UNESCO in 2015 did not receive enough votes from member countries of this organization.
