Collegium of the chiefs of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces: Trilateral meeting in Skadar directed against Serbia
The meeting of the Chiefs of General Staff of two NATO member states, Albania and Croatia, with representatives of Pristina constitutes a serious security challenge clearly directed against Serbia, it was concluded today at the Collegium of the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces. It was further noted that this development requires the Serbian Armed Forces to continue strengthening their defense capabilities at an accelerated pace and to remain a robust deterrent factor.
According to a statement issued by the Serbian Armed Forces, the session—during which other matters of importance for the functioning and enhancement of the Army’s capabilities were also discussed—focused in particular on the intensification of activities by Albania, Croatia, and Pristina aimed at strengthening their military alliance. These activities, it was emphasized, represent a gross violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 and the Military-Technical Agreement concluded in Kumanovo.
“It was concluded that the holding of a meeting of the Chiefs of General Staff of two NATO member states with representatives of the provisional institutions of self-government in our southern province constitutes a serious security challenge clearly directed against the Republic of Serbia, and that it imposes on the Serbian Armed Forces the need to continue accelerating the strengthening of the country’s defense capabilities and to remain a strong deterrent factor,” the statement notes.
In this regard, concrete measures and tasks were defined with the aim of monitoring the development of the security situation and ensuring the readiness of the Armed Forces to respond in a timely manner to protect the citizens and national interests of Serbia.
The statement further underlines that the Serbian Armed Forces remain committed to preserving peace and stability in the region and to the continued development of deterrence capabilities against potential military threats.
“To that end, in accordance with the orders of the Supreme Commander and President of the Republic, and the tasks arising from the analysis of the current situation and operational and functional capabilities, the Serbian Armed Forces have intensified activities that will in the near future significantly enhance defensive power and secure capabilities exceeding the aggregate capabilities of this military alliance,” the statement concludes.
