Dacic: Representatives of the international community believe that Kurti is the biggest problem
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, said that he was not surprised by the statement of the US special representative for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, about the CSM, and that this position had been repeated for a long time, TV Happy reports.
Dacic pointed out that the US approach to this issue was very correct and added that some European representatives were not so strict on this issue.
"Escobar explained the Brussels agreement in a way that was in our favor. He said that the agreement was legally binding. Some other European representatives are not so strict on this issue. Baerbock told me that no Kosovo prime minister would accept the formation of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities. However, when the Brussels Agreement was signed Hashim Thaci was the Prime Minister. He signed it. The paradox is that some accept the Brussels Agreement and some do not. President Vucic listed all the international agreements and asked which agreement was acceptable to them. It is obvious that Pristina does not want anything to be respected and the continuation of the dialogue is also called into question. The papers of the Thessaloniki summit refer to the UN Resolution 1244. All claims that the agreements and resolutions are not valid serve to encourage Kurti not to accept anything and to continue his agenda. In the coming days, we will work on de-escalation, and only then we can talk about more serious topics based on the Brussels Agreement," Minister Dacic said in the show "Good Morning Serbia".
Dacic commented on the position of the international community regarding the return of Kosovo Serbs to Kosovo institutions.
"The situation is not simple at all. The Serbs have no place or way to return to the institutions. Representatives of the International Community declared that the biggest problem at the moment was Kurti. They also believe that while Kurti is in power the Brussels Agreement will not be respected," Dacic said.
The minister said that it was uncertain what would happen to Kosovo after applying for EU membership.
"Szijjarto personally promised me that he would vote against it! The question is whether there will be a vote at all, or whether the presiding Czech Republic will treat that as a procedural issue," Dacic said.
Dacic said that Serbia had to lead a balanced foreign policy based on the principles of international law.
"The issue of alignment with the EU is not only a question related to Russia. Our people are disgusted when someone talks about sanctions. We were victims of sanctions. I am talking about political interests here. It is very important how and who will vote in international forums. We have no benefits if we have countries that did not recognize Kosovo when they did not vote for it. If we imposed sanctions on Russia, would that mean that Kosovo would not enter the UN? Of course not. Nothing would change if we imposed sanctions on Russia, except that we would lose the votes we could count on. Therefore, our decisions are sovereign and we make them regardless of pressure from both sides," Dacic said.
He mentioned once again that to solve the current crisis in Kosovo, the most important thing was to stop the further escalation of violence.
"Today is the session of the European Council, all EU leaders are at that meeting, and the situation in Kosovo will certainly be discussed. Lajcak and Borrell will certainly inform about what is happening," Dacic concluded.
