Renate Schröder, Director of the European Federation of Journalists, stated that they are concerned about the situation in Kosovo after it dropped 24 places on the World Press Freedom Index.

Speaking on the Info Magazine program on Klan Kosova, she said they are closely monitoring the situation in Kosovo and that it does not look good.

“Unfortunately, there are many countries in Europe where there are red flags, i.e. high risk. As you know, this is our daily work—we inform the Council of Europe about everything that is happening, and we hope that international organizations such as the Council of Europe, the European Union, or representatives of the European Federation of Journalists will take our concerns into account and do everything they can to put pressure on the government, even though with very little success—but it is our duty, and we will continue to do it,” said Schröder.

She emphasized that the situation in Kosovo has not been good in recent years, nor is it improving.

“The reasons are geopolitical, political, and we see it all up close—wherever you are, wherever you work—journalists must not be endangered while doing their job,” Schröder concluded.
