Djuric and Powell: Pristina unwilling to fulfil obligations from reached agreements
Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Djuric, met today with Jonathan Powell, National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, with whom he discussed the situation in Kosovo, the Berlin Process, and bilateral relations.
Speaking about the situation in Kosovo, Djuric informed his guest of the ongoing physical and legal pressures directed against the Serbian population in Kosovo, as well as Pristina’s unwillingness to listen to the other side in the dialogue and to fulfil the obligations stemming from agreements reached so far, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia stated.
The Minister recalled the importance Serbia attaches to the historical ties between the Serbian and British peoples and emphasized Serbia’s commitment to deepening its relations with the United Kingdom.
Expressing satisfaction with the intensified political dialogue between the two countries in recent months aimed at strengthening overall bilateral relations, the Serbian Foreign Minister voiced hope that the coming period will see the materialization of the mutually expressed interest in developing a strategic dialogue.
He also referred to the United Kingdom’s chairmanship of this year’s Berlin Process and shared impressions from the meeting of foreign ministers of the Western Balkans held in Belfast, where current issues of regional importance were discussed.
In a post on the social media platform “X,” Djuric stated that he had a constructive conversation with Powell.
“A constructive conversation with Jonathan Powell, National Security Adviser to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, on the state of relations between Serbia and the United Kingdom, the historical ties between our peoples, and prospects for future cooperation.”
He underlined that the continuation of dialogue is a positive signal for advancing relations between the two countries.
“It is a positive signal that our political dialogue continues to intensify, and Serbia remains fully open to launching new cooperation mechanisms with the #UnitedKingdom, expanding our partnership in areas of mutual interest, and advancing concrete projects in trade and investment, new technologies, security, energy, and people-to-people exchange,” Minister Djuric added in his post.
