Djuric with Marcel Peško: The role of the OSCE mission is crucial for monitoring the rights of the Serbian community in Kosovo and Metohija
Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Djuric, met today with the new Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Ambassador Marcel Peško, to discuss cooperation priorities and joint activities in the period ahead, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
Minister Djuric congratulated the Head of Mission on assuming his duties and expressed confidence that the joint work of Serbia and the OSCE Mission will remain open and focused on achieving concrete results.
He emphasized that the OSCE is one of Serbia’s most important partners when it comes to dialogue and the preservation of stability in the region.
“Djuric particularly underscored the importance of the support the OSCE provides to Serbia in its European integration process, including in the areas of the rule of law, human rights, media freedom, and democratic standards. He noted that Serbia is making economic progress, that regional cooperation carries special significance, and that the Western Balkans—owing to its potential—can be a valuable partner to the European Union,” the statement reads, adding:
“Djuric also highlighted the importance of the OSCE Mission’s activities in Kosovo and Metohija and stressed that Serbia highly values its role in monitoring minority rights and the security situation on the ground—matters of particular importance for the Serbian community and for preserving stability in the province.”
He noted that the Mission’s support for Serbia’s efforts to strengthen institutions and public policies represents an important contribution to the stability of the entire region. He expressed his expectation that cooperation with Ambassador Peško will support the implementation of projects that directly affect the daily lives of citizens.
Minister Djuric reaffirmed that Serbia remains committed to open dialogue and cooperation with the OSCE, with the expectation that joint efforts will foster further development and deliver tangible results, the MFA concluded.
