Djuric meets Abubakhar: Serbia appreciates Uganda’s firm position on non-recognition of Kosovo

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Marko Djuric, met today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uganda, Jeje Odongo Abubakhar, on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement in Kampala. On this occasion, Minister Djuric conveyed that Serbia highly values Uganda’s firm stance on non-recognition of Kosovo.

Minister Djuric congratulated his Ugandan counterpart on Uganda’s successful chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement and the excellent organization of the ministerial meeting.

Given that Serbia upholds the legacy of the Non-Aligned Movement and remains committed to the respect of its principles as universal values, Minister Djuric assessed the gathering as an opportunity to further strengthen the traditionally friendly ties and to build new bridges of cooperation with Uganda, as well as with other African countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia stated.

The Serbian Foreign Minister expressed particular gratitude for Uganda’s principled support for Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and for its steadfast position on non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo.

In discussing prospects for economic cooperation, the ministers agreed that there is considerable potential for its enhancement, given the growing needs of both economies and the significant opportunities available in the agri-food sector, information and communication technologies, construction, energy, science, and innovation.

With regard to cooperation in education, Minister Djuric highlighted that the “World in Serbia” scholarship program is being successfully implemented and expressed hope that an even greater number of Ugandan students will apply to study in Serbia.

Minister Djuric expressed particular satisfaction with Uganda’s participation in the Specialized International Exhibition EXPO 2027 in Belgrade, emphasizing that the event will provide an excellent opportunity for Uganda to present its rich culture and traditions at a manifestation of global prominence.
