Djuric meets with Jenca on the situation in Kosovo, UNMIK, and Pristina’s unilateral actions
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Djuric, met today with Miroslav Jenca, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for Europe, Central Asia, and the Americas, to discuss regional relations, the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, and current international issues.
Minister Djuric highlighted the good cooperation with the United Nations team in Serbia and underlined the importance of the UN’s role in safeguarding the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia.
He reiterated that Serbia remains firmly committed to multilateralism and to the goals and principles of the UN Charter, which he described as the most important foundation of international relations and a key precondition for achieving the Charter’s fundamental objective – the preservation of international peace and security.
He also emphasized that the presence of UNMIK remains essential for maintaining peace, stability, and security for the Serbian and other non-Albanian communities in Kosovo.
The Serbian Foreign Minister drew attention to a series of unilateral actions by Pristina that grossly violate fundamental human rights and amount to physical and institutional violence against Serbs. This includes increasingly frequent arrests of Serbs without valid grounds or transparent procedures, with the aim of intimidation and the complete expulsion of the Serbian community from Kosovo. He also pointed to the beginning of construction of two new bridges over the Ibar River, which the Pristina authorities are using to heighten the direct threat to the predominantly Serbian population in the north.
Regarding the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Minister Djuric reaffirmed Serbia’s strong support for the Dayton Peace Agreement, which he called the cornerstone of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s constitutional order and a guarantor of peace and stability.
Speaking about the broader regional context, Djuric noted that certain statements and actions by officials from neighboring countries run counter to European values and stressed the need for greater political responsibility in regional discourse.
He reiterated Serbia’s commitment to strengthening regional stability and promoting cooperation based primarily on economic and infrastructure development, along with full dedication to the reconciliation process.
In conclusion, Minister Djuric stated that Serbia will continue to engage with the United Nations across all forums and missions that contribute to the preservation of peace, rights, and stability in the region, and that it will maintain its contribution to collective security through participation in peacekeeping operations around the world.
