Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric stressed today, during a meeting with staff members of US congressmen and senators, that Belgrade was seeking to build the best possible relations with key countries around the world, while its main foreign policy goals remained strengthening stability and cooperation in the region and accession to the European Union.

According to a statement from the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Djuric explained to the US guests that Serbia’s geographical position and its economic and security environment made the Balkans and Europe the foundation of all of the country’s most important relationships.

The Serbian Foreign Minister recalled that the first round of the Strategic Dialogue between Serbia and the United States had been held in Washington just over a month ago, stressing that it represented the culmination of relations between the two countries and a key platform for advancing bilateral cooperation in various fields—from politics and security to energy, trade and investment, as well as culture, science and people-to-people ties.

He also pointed out that around one million Serbs live in the United States and represent an important bridge for further strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

Speaking to the US guests, who are visiting the region, about the most important aspects of Serbia’s domestic and foreign policy, Minister Djuric presented the country’s key achievements in the fields of the economy and infrastructure, as well as in maintaining financial and energy stability despite numerous geopolitical challenges and conflicts around the world, which also have an indirect impact on the region.

He noted that Serbia had achieved significant results in the development of new technologies in recent years, with the United States being the country’s most important partner in the services sector and in the use of information and communications technologies.

At the end of the meeting with Minister Djuric, the US guests had an opportunity to ask questions about Serbia’s positions on the most important regional and geopolitical issues.
