Djuric thanks counterparts from Nepal and Cabo Verde for supporting Serbia’s territorial integrity

Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric met in New York with Nepalese Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal and Cabo Verde’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and National Defense Manuel Augusto Lima Amante da Rosa, whom he thanked for their countries’ principled support for the preservation of Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Djuric and Nepalese Foreign Minister Khanal signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the foreign ministries of Serbia and Nepal establishing a mechanism for bilateral consultations.

Noting that relations between the two countries were traditionally good and based on mutual understanding and trust, Djuric said it was necessary to continue strengthening political dialogue and translating cooperation into concrete initiatives in areas of mutual interest.

The two ministers highlighted the importance of the Non-Aligned Movement and preserving its legacy in the contemporary era, while Djuric expressed particular gratitude for the participation of the Nepalese delegation in the recent Commemorative Meeting in Belgrade marking the 65th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Djuric said that Serbia was interested in advancing economic relations with Nepal, primarily by increasing the volume of trade and encouraging investment.

The Minister expressed satisfaction that Nepal would participate in the Specialized Expo 2027 in Belgrade, stressing that the event would provide an opportunity for high-level Nepalese delegations to visit Serbia. He also used the occasion to invite his counterpart to visit the country.

During the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Djuric also met with his counterpart from Cabo Verde, with whom he signed an Agreement on the Mutual Abolition of Visa Requirements for Holders of Diplomatic, Official and Service Passports, which will facilitate direct contacts between citizens of the two countries and promote the development of economic cooperation.

Djuric expressed satisfaction with Cabo Verde’s participation in the recent commemoration of the anniversary of the founding of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade and invited the country’s highest-ranking officials to visit Serbia.

The Serbian Foreign Minister added that intensifying political dialogue and exchanging visits at the high and highest levels would provide new impetus to the development of overall bilateral cooperation.

Speaking about the potential for cooperation, Djuric particularly emphasized the importance of educational cooperation and the “World in Serbia” program, which serves as an important bridge between the two countries and provides young people from Cabo Verde with an opportunity to study at universities in Serbia.

The two sides also noted that the upcoming Specialized Expo 2027 in Belgrade would provide an excellent opportunity to present Cabo Verde’s economic potential to a broad international audience.
