Djuric thanks counterparts from Tunisia and Azerbaijan for respecting international law and territorial integrity

Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric held separate meetings in New York with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti, whom he thanked for their countries’ respect for international law and Serbia’s territorial integrity.

During his meeting with Minister Bayramov, Djuric discussed further strengthening ties between Serbia and Azerbaijan, as well as current issues, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

The Serbian Foreign Minister said that relations between the two countries were founded on traditional friendship, mutual trust and respect for the fundamental principles of international law, stressing that Serbia regarded Azerbaijan as a reliable partner in building long-term strategic relations.

As confirmation of the intensive political dialogue, Djuric recalled Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s official visit to Belgrade in February this year and the personal contacts between Aliyev and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

Djuric added that these developments, together with the inaugural session of the Strategic Partnership Council between the two countries, provided important impetus for further advancing bilateral cooperation.

The two ministers also highlighted the importance of the direct Belgrade-Baku air service launched in May this year, assessing that it was already contributing to better connectivity between the two countries and their capitals.

Current issues were also discussed, with Djuric emphasizing the importance of continuing close coordination and an open exchange of views on matters of mutual interest.

During his meeting with Mohamed Ali Nafti, Djuric stressed that Serbia was interested in intensifying political dialogue with Tunisia and organizing high-level visits.

He invited Minister Nafti to visit Serbia.

Djuric expressed gratitude to Tunisia for its firm position in respecting Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and on issues of importance to the country.

The two ministers also discussed the High-Level Commemorative Meeting marking the 65th anniversary of the first Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as the importance of upholding the Movement’s principles in the contemporary geopolitical environment.

Regarding economic cooperation, the two sides noted that there was considerable potential for further development, as well as for stronger ties in the fields of culture and education.

Discussing Tunisia’s participation in the Specialized Expo 2027 in Belgrade, Djuric and his counterpart also considered concrete steps in that regard. Djuric stressed that the event would provide Tunisia with a valuable opportunity to showcase its potential and further promote opportunities for cooperation with Serbia.
