Drecun: Kosovo joining NATO would be very bad for the Serbs

The President of the Committee of the Serbian Assembly for Kosovo and Metohija, Milovan Drecun, warned today that if Kosovo joined NATO, the security situation in Kosovo would fundamentally change, which was very bad for the Serbs because the importance of organizations such as the Kosovo Security Forces would increase, which, he added, was the successor of the KLA.

On TV Pink, Drecun pointed out that the West operated according to a certain matrix, and that violence against the Serbs was seen as individual incidents for which the Kosovo police were responsible.

"It is very worrying that lately, we have a continuous campaign of violence by Pristina against the Serbs. We have more and more attacks on Serbian children and youth. We are faced with a lighthearted, unacceptable taking up of arms under incoherent explanations. This is proof that everything that is happening is an integral part of politics which aims to put pressure on the international community, on the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija and Serbia to turn the dialogue in a direction that suits Albin Kurti, and proof that the crisis and violence will not stop until a solution that suits Pristina is reached," Drecun emphasized and added that the West was silently going over it.

He also pointed out that, although the police and the prosecutor's office arrested the perpetrators of those crimes, everything depended on the punishment, because if someone was not punished for such a criminal act as an attack on the Serbs, it would encourage others to do the same.

Drecun said that KFOR was talking about the three rings of Kosovo's security, that the first was the Kosovo Police, the second was EULEX and the third was KFOR, which reacted only in the most critical situations.

"KFOR leaves the Kosovo police to do what they do, to enforce the rule of law. But Pristina enforces the law only in the north, while south of the Ibar, criminal gangs rule and there is no enforcement of the rule of law," he explained.

Drecun pointed out that special police units had been stationed south of the Ibar and occasionally raided the north, and Kurti had used the situation regarding license plates to build temporary bases for them in the north along movement corridors from the south to the north.

"There are four bases, and another one is planned, which is particularly worrying because it would be a base for the Kosovo Security Forces. Their defense minister announced that 2023 would be the year of those forces, with investment in equipment and professional staffing. Bearing in mind that President Vucic also said yesterday that the West would push Kosovo into NATO, it is clear that the Kosovo Security Forces must be quickly formed. This is a danger to the security of the Serbs. Although KFOR gave guarantees that these forces could not be present in the north, that fifth base in the area of Mokra Gora shows their intentions. If Kosovo becomes a member of NATO, it would fundamentally change the security situation and it would be very bad for us," Drecun said.

Drecun said that the silence about the European plan of the five EU countries that had not recognized Kosovo was striking.

That plan, he adds, would completely open the way for Kosovo to Euro-Atlantic structures.

When it comes to the CSM, he pointed out that the Americans had a slightly more flexible attitude than Germany and the Europeans.

"The US clearly said that if Kurti would not form the CSM, they would do it with the civil sector. The US ambassador in Pristina called a meeting with all political leaders and the civil sector on that topic. Kurti was clearly told that if he was not ready to form the CSM, it could cause a political upheaval, even elections," Drecun explained.

Drecun said that, on the other hand, Germany had a different approach.

He stated that at the beginning of November in Germany, Chancellor Olaf Scholz had held a meeting regarding the CSM, which had been attended by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and Kosovo's Albin Kurti.

"They discussed CSM. Germany is trying to push through the non-governmental organization of one of its political parties its proposal and view of the CSM, which would be in line with what Kurti wants in order to make that institution meaningless," Drecun warns.

When asked about the theft of the laptop to the judge of The Hague Court, Drecun pointed out that earlier there had been leaks of documents through KLA veterans, two of whom had been punished for it, and that the situation was more difficult now, because it was carried out by professionals.

"I assume that the AKI intelligence service, which the West has not disbanded, is behind the theft of the laptop. Now they want to get the maximum amount of data they need. This can seriously threaten the safety of witnesses, and over 300 witnesses have been announced. It is a serious action that must be cut because it endangers trials," Drecun said.
