Drecun: Kurti is bothered by the Serb List because it has the undivided support of the Serbian people

Chairman of the Serbian Parliament’s Committee on Defense and Internal Affairs, Milovan Drecun, commenting on the summons issued by Pristina to the leadership of the Serb List, emphasized that Kosovo’s caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti seeks to portray the Serb List as criminal and, by arresting its leaders, to send the message that even ordinary people are not safe, Sputnik reports.
When asked whether this could be part of preparations for the upcoming local elections in October — where Pristina fears that in the four northern municipalities, the Serb List might replace mayors elected with just two percent of the vote — Drecun stated that Kurti’s regime is deeply troubled by the Serb List because it enjoys the undivided support of the Serbian people.
“He would prefer that someone like Nenad Rašić receive the Serb votes so he could manipulate them. But the Serb List, which has the support of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija and maintains direct communication with Belgrade, represents a major obstacle to achieving the goals Kurti is pursuing, especially in northern Kosovo. That is why Kurti persistently attempts to discredit and criminalize the Serb List. Let us recall that they even tried to label it as a terrorist organization. They threatened to ban its political activities, and now they continue the pressure through accusations against its top leaders for allegedly undermining their constitutional order, simply because they participated in protests where Serbs were defending their right to survive,” Drecun noted.
He reminded that in northern Kosovo, Serbs are continuously subjected not only to violence but also to institutional terror perpetrated by the Pristina regime.
“All this shows that Kurti wants to discredit the Serb List as much as possible and prevent it from achieving strong results in the local elections in October. He continues to exert pressure on it in an effort to, through unilateral violence and repression, eliminate what he sees as the main obstacle — the Serb List — from the political scene. At the same time, such behavior by Pristina instills further fear among our people, particularly in the north, because if the leadership of the Serb List is being targeted, then ordinary people perceive this as a double threat. If such persecution is possible against them, what can ordinary people expect? This likely drives many to leave Kosovo and Metohija. Therefore, Kurti’s actions further intimidate the Serbian population and contribute to ethnic cleansing — that is, the emigration of Serbs,” Drecun concluded.
