The Director of the Clinical Hospital Center Kosovska Mitrovica, Zlatan Elek, told Kosovo Online that yesterday's shipment of medications was the first step towards regular medication supply, and he believed that there would not be any administrative obstacles for their procurement in the future.

Elek said that after exactly two years and three months, medications had been delivered to Clinical Hospital Center Kosovska Mitrovica from central Serbia, following a central tender.

"We received one truckload of infusion solutions, and in the other trucks, there were antibiotics, some cytostatics, nadroparin, and various other medications. I believe that this is the first step towards regular medication supply for the Clinical Hospital Center, and this is not the last shipment. We will continuously be supplied, and we won't encounter any unnecessary administrative obstacles. These medications are primarily essential for our patients, regardless of their race, national identity, or political affiliation because we are here to treat everyone", he said.

He emphasized that these medications had brought the most joy to patients and staff, who would now be able to provide healthcare services of higher quality with certainty.

"Once again, I would like to stress that this is just the first step. I expect that this will continue, and in the upcoming period, starting next week, we will proceed with the regular supply of medications because this quantity is certainly not enough; this is just the beginning. I would like to mention that two weeks ago, we received a certain amount of oxygen that is sufficient for the hospital's operation in the near future. I am confident that there won't be any challenging circumstances that would hinder the regular hospital supply. With this delivery, we have proven right when we said that it would prevent a humanitarian catastrophe", he emphasized.

Elek recalled that patients had to buy their own medications up until now, even those coming for specific elective surgeries.

"We have decided to perform all surgical procedures, and from today, the regular program is underway, so all patients who have been waiting but were not on the list for emergencies can be admitted to the Clinical Hospital Center and operated immediately. We have a considerable amount of cytostatics for our most seriously ill patients suffering from malignant diseases. I would like to thank everyone who participated and put in effort to provide the initial quantities of the necessary medications needed to get us moving forward", Elek said.

The Director of the Clinical Hospital Center said he could not speculate on how long the current supply of medications would last, as it primarily depended on the number of patients.

"It is certainly not sufficient for an extended period, and we need to receive shipments every month or every two months to balance the inadequate supply we've had over the past two years and two months. No such shipment arrived in the last two years like yesterday's. We expect it to be continuous now, without any administrative obstacles", Elek explained.

The Director of the Clinical Hospital Center expressed his gratitude to everyone who participated and made efforts to provide the initial quantities of the necessary medications that were needed to, as he explained, "move forward from a standstill".
