Deputy commander for the Northern region, Veton Elshani, says for Kosovo Online that after the deadline for re-registration to RKS license plates, they have not had a case where someone has been fined or warned because there is a very small number of vehicles that are still not re-registered.

"We have a very small number of cars that have remained unregistered in Kosovo, and you can see on the streets that there are no more KM license plates, and this is no longer a problematic issue for us. Today, a police officer can warn someone if they see them on the street because maybe you are going to the hospital, you have an emergency, and the police will help you, not challenge your right to go somewhere. The police can issue a fine or confiscate the car, but so far, we haven't had any cases, not even giving a warning on the street, let alone issuing a fine. We haven't had a single case," he said.

Regarding the significant crowds at administrative crossings yesterday, Elshani says they had information that many people were going to vote.

"That's why the police's operational plan was to help people move faster, to avoid problems on the streets, to be where the crowds are, to avoid problems. Yes, there were many buses and cars, many people who crossed the border. At these two border crossings we have here, Jarinje and Brnjak, we increased the number of people working there, but you know there's not much space there. What we could do is have more police officers looking in different directions to speed up the process. We have two border points, two crossings where people need to stop, and that's a problem, but I think everything went smoothly," Elshani concluded.
