EU Office in Kosovo: We urge everyone to show restraint and mark Vidovdan peacefully
On the eve of Vidovdan, the European Union Office in Kosovo has called for maximum restraint and for the holiday to be celebrated in a peaceful manner, Gazeta Express reports.
"With regard to the celebration of Vidovdan, the EU Office in Kosovo calls on all concerned parties to exercise maximum restraint to ensure a peaceful commemoration," the EU Office in Kosovo stated.
This message comes after Kosovo's caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti said during today’s government session that “the authorities in Serbia could encourage incidents at Gazimestan.”
The EU Office also commented on the recent decision of the Basic Court regarding the display of the Serbian flag during the holiday celebration, stating that the ruling does not fully guarantee the constitutional rights of Kosovo Serbs.
“With regard to the display of the Serbian flag, we are aware of the recent decision by the Basic Court, which is currently under appeal. In our view, this decision does not fully ensure the constitutional rights of Kosovo Serbs. Based on our assessment, the matter falls within the administrative competencies of the Municipality of Gracanica. We do not support a broad interpretation of this decision by Kosovo institutions in a manner that could infringe upon the cultural or religious rights of individuals or of the Serbian Orthodox Church, which are guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of Kosovo,” the EU Office stated.
