Garic: The Serbs are ready to endure injustice; Kurti shows the unsustainability of the situation in Kosovo with terror

The conversation between Aleksandar Vucic, Josep Borrell, and Miroslav Lajcak yesterday in Brussels was the only thing that could have happened within the framework of the dialogue at this moment, to present to the two EU representatives from the Serbian side what exactly were the consequences of Albin Kurti's policy in the areas where the majority of the Kosovo Serbs lived in; what Kurti's policy of terror had led to and what was its balance, how many people had been seriously injured by Kosovo Special Forces; how many Serbs had been arrested without grounds and what kind of mistreatment they were suffering, Milos Garic, editor of the Kosovo Online portal, told RTS this morning.

Garic emphasized that the Serbs, with their persistent and dignified resistance to terror, had caused Albin Kurti to show the whole world his true face, the face of an arrogant and violent politician, who had been given the chance to implement a reign of terror in Kosovo without hesitation.

"The biggest part of the burden is certainly on the Serbs who are suffering from all this. Who, with their patience and determination to endure all this injustice, led to the fact that the ideas and policies of Albin Kurti are completely unmasked and that it is now clear to the actors in the West that his intentions are bad and very dangerous and that it is a policy of pure violence against the Serbs, and not any enforcement of the rule of law, as he likes to present it. The entire population living in that area is kept in a state of high tension and complete uncertainty. We have numerous examples of unfounded arrests, severely injured people, and torture of those arrested. Dragisa Galjak was wounded and is in a serious condition, no one is responsible for all of that. And, for now, the representatives of the West have not managed to find effective enough ways to stop Albin Kurti. And it is important that President Vucic presented all that information to Brussels yesterday," Garic pointed out.

According to him, dialogue is currently impossible and meaningless, because the Prime Minister of Kosovo does not want dialogue, but wants to achieve his goals through the conflict and the state of war that he has introduced in the north of Kosovo.

"Kurti constantly talks about democracy and the rule of law, that it is his right to implement laws as he thinks he should, but now it is finally clear to international representatives that these are lies and that he is taking advantage of their passivity and support. After yesterday's meeting, we do not know if are we closer to the possibility of calming down the situation. Borrell's statement says that it seems we don’t and that Kurti will have more space to implement his will and terror toward the Serbs. In the West they know what the situation is in Kosovo, they don't need much explaining, but they have contributed crucially to everything that Albin Kurti is producing now and it is difficult for them to admit their own responsibility. That is why some questions are logically asked. How did all this happen? People from Washington and Brussels in the following months supported Kurti to conduct completely illegitimate elections, they recognized the results of something based on three percent of voters, but the Serbs did not participate in it. They said everything was legal and legitimate. Kurti concluded that he could continue his plan and the use of force. Although, he only had a warning from Washington for that, not to introduce his people with the help of the Special Police into the municipal buildings where the Serbs live. Kurti did exactly what the people from America asked him not to do," Garic pointed out.

He sees it as Kurti's insolence and ingratitude towards the people who have been giving unreserved support to Albanians in Kosovo for more than 20 years.

"Gabriel Escobar spoke openly these days about what the US has done by siding with the Kosovo Albanians. Both in terms of money and supporting the project of their independence. Escobar listed it all nicely. Now, from Pristina, you have poisonous arrows from the Albanians towards Washington. From the people from Albin Kurti's closest environment in particular. From Self-Determination, they show enormous ingratitude and a lack of awareness of what consequences they can produce. They say that they no longer need Americans in Kosovo and that they themselves will deal with the Serbs. And this is now leading to changes in Washington's approach to Pristina. But things are going slowly because the people who lead American politics, as well as the EU, still want to leave a semblance of order in Kosovo society, the alleged Kosovo democracy and the rule of law, the system they have been building for more than 20 years. They don't want to admit that the project has largely proved to be unsuccessful. Because this is a disaster, what the situation in Kosovo has turned into," the editor of the Kosovo Online portal assesses.

Garic adds that this is why the whole drama with the "persuasion" of Albin Kurti will have to last for some time, apparently.

"Every day like this is too much, but a similar situation will probably last another month, two or three. Kurti will not change and in the end, he has to be disarmed in that part of the authority he abuses with the Kosovo Police and the judiciary. The US will certainly solve that, there is a way to do it. Kurti’s possibilities to abuse institutions must be limited. KFOR and EULEX will have to take a role there so EULEX should do a little more to control and prevent abuses of the Kosovo Police and the judiciary. They are not doing that job properly and it is a shame to allow the extremists in Pristina to act in this way. The faster people from the West can do it, the faster we will be able to return to some normalization of the situation and return to dialogue. So, first of all, to stop the arbitrary arrests, to stop the shooting of people and the other daily terror of the authorities from Pristina towards the Serbs," Garic concluded.
