Gavrani: Kurti's democracy is mostly "on paper", it must be valid for all communities

Political analyst from Prishtina, Mimoza Gavrani, commented for Kosovo online statements by Prime Minister Albin Kurti in which he boasts that Kosovo is democratic, saying that democracy should not only be "on paper" and that it must be valid for all communities.

When asked how she sees Kurti's messages about the state of democracy in Kosovo, respect for the rule of law and minority rights, in light of the crisis in the north and everything that the Serbs have been going through in recent months, as well as the numerous corruption scandals of the government, Gavrani says that Kurti is right, because Kosovo has democracy 'on paper'.

"We have the best laws and that is positive, a good base, which we have to continue to implement, both Kurti and us from civil society. Because we all live here and we need to support this country. I repeat, Kurti is right when it comes to Kosovo as a democratic state, but it is also important that he gives a positive attitude so that the policy of this country, which should be a democracy for example, is implemented. And that it is a democracy for everyone, not just for one community".

Gavrani also points out that it is important that Kurti and the people in power are aware that there are numerous documents, 39 of them, that Kosovo should implement together with Serbia.

"It is also important that we have progressive policies in the dialogue process, and not just to be present in that dialogue. You should come prepared to those meetings and be ready to make important and sensitive decisions," concluded Gavrani.
