Political scientist Ognjen Gogic pointed out that the leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, is a politician who is not consistent with his words, and that it would not be surprising if he were to step back from his decision to resign as party president. If he stands by his decision, Gogic believes it would be with the aim of running for President of Kosovo.

Gogic told Kosovo Online that the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo is a party that has ended up on the margins and that it is unlikely it could survive without Haradinaj in the leadership position.

“It barely crossed the threshold, it is not a factor in Kosovo’s political life and it does not have established leaders who can succeed Haradinaj. That party has no future, given that a period of four years of stable rule by Albin Kurti lies ahead. It is possible that in the meantime some new leaders may emerge who would take over the Alliance, but it was a leader centered party, so it is unlikely that it can stand on its feet without Haradinaj. However, Haradinaj is someone who is not consistent in his words, he is prone to shifts and someone who has made the most reversals on Kosovo’s political scene, so it would not be surprising if he were to go back on what he said”, Gogic believes.

As he adds, it appears that Haradinaj’s announcement is aimed at positioning himself as a candidate for President of Kosovo, because, under the Constitution, the President of Kosovo cannot also be a party leader.

“It would be more accurate to say that he is offering himself as a kind of alternative within the discussion about who should be President of Kosovo. Haradinaj certainly does not have an alternative career. He will remain part of Kosovo’s political life in one way or another, regardless of the political moves he is currently making”, Gogic emphasizes.
