Graovac: It was only a matter of time before Kurti would create a new crisis in the north

Srdjan Graovac from the Center for Social Stability says regarding yesterday's decision by the Kosovo Police to ban the KM license plates' validity extended after December 10 last year, that it was only a matter of time before Albin Kurti would find a new reason for making another crisis.

He adds that Kurti has shown that he has no intention of stopping and that his main goal is to intimidate the Serbs and break their unity in Kosovo and Metohija.

Graovac notes that the statement by Kosovo Minister Xhelal Svecla "that Serbia has violated the agreement on license plates and that cars with KM plates will not be allowed to enter and drive in Kosovo" shows Pristina's intention for wanting constant tensions.

"Kurti wants constant tensions, and it is clear that he intends to derive political benefit from all of this. In the first place, it is pressure on the Serbs to be intimidated and move out of Kosovo or to be intimidated to the extent that they waver and leave the Serb List and turn to his favorites such as Rada Trajkovic. The third thing that is particularly dangerous about such actions is that Kurti hopes to divide the Serbian community and thus weaken the Serbian position. Kurti is aware that he cannot intimidate all Serbs into leaving, but breaking the Serbian unity would also represent success for him," Graovac believes.

At this moment, our interlocutor does not expect a reaction from the international community.

"They will not react now, but when we are on the brink of conflict again, which is extremely dangerous because that situation can escalate. The international community will then take matters into their own hands and ask the Serbs to make concessions to Kurti again, which is exactly what he is counting on," Graovac says.
