Former U.S. Special Envoy for the Belgrade–Pristina dialogue Richard Grenell stated that Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani is manipulating statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the prevention of conflict between Kosovo and Serbia.

"Shame on Vjosa Osmani for manipulating President Donald Trump's words," Grenell wrote on the social media platform X.

He reminded that Trump was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to establish peace and economic normalization between Kosovo and Serbia during 2019 and 2020, particularly through the signing of the Washington Agreement at the White House.

"Osmani was not part of that agreement. Pretending that something new is happening now is absurd," Grenell said in response to Osmani’s interpretation that Trump’s statements refer to "current security threats, not past events."

Namely, during a discussion at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, Osmani said that Trump’s remarks about preventing conflict between Serbia and Kosovo were "not about past events, but about a current security threat" and that Trump was very clear in stating that he had "recently made an exceptional contribution to stopping Serbia in its actions directed against Kosovo."

"Yes, he is very specific in his statement in which he speaks about the last few weeks. He is not referring to the Washington Agreement of 2020, which was also a contribution by President Trump. He is not referring to the Banjska attack, an act of aggression from 2023, but he was very clear in his statements. And, as you know, for those of us who read security reports daily—and are not allowed to disclose more—it is clear from President Trump’s statements that he made an exceptional contribution to preventing the destabilization of our region, and this happened in recent weeks. That’s why I am convinced that this occurred thanks to the role of the United States and his direct involvement in preserving and protecting peace," Osmani said.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic also responded to her claims, stating that Serbia would never even think of doing such a thing.

"We have not raised a single soldier, not moved a single machine, nothing of the sort even crosses our minds. We want to work and build. And those who constantly speak of wars and blame clearly have a guilty conscience, and I completely understand why they are trying to find someone else to blame. We have no need to do that; we are focused on our work. I always respond only to what they say and never make such statements first," Vucic emphasized, adding that such statements "require men in white coats, not politicians issuing denials."
