Former Special Representative of the United States for Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Richard Grenell, stated that in 2020, discussions were held about the withdrawal of NATO forces from Kosovo because significant progress had been made in the dialogue at that time.

"Donald Trump and his team were making unprecedented and groundbreaking moves to bring Kosovo and Serbia together. We had an economic agreement that both sides were pushing forward. I have to be honest, as we made significant progress in 2020, we discussed the potential idea of removing NATO forces from Kosovo. It was time, there was nothing for them to do. The two sides agreed on economic development, opened borders, agreed on the Pristina-Belgrade air route, Lufthansa said they would provide that flight. We were making so much progress, but then came Biden's team, which decided to change US policy in the Balkans," Grenell said.

According to him, the current US policy is that Europeans are in charge.

"So, for the past three years, Europeans have been in charge, and what we see now is chaos, violence, fighting, and an increase in the troop presence in Kosovo. Those are the facts," Grenell said.
