Grubjesic: Only America can force Pristina to start forming the CSM

Vice President of the Center for Foreign Policy Suzana Grubjesic assesses that Albin Kurti's latest moves, such as the appointment of Nenad Rasic as a minister, after the exit of Serbs from Pristina institutions, are expected, but that this does not mean that they are rational and contribute to peace and stability, RTV reports.

"Unfortunately, every day it is shown that when you make such irrational moves, you fundamentally undermine dialogue and the possibility of reaching a sustainable solution, which would reconcile both the Serbian and Albanian communities in Kosovo, and make the region more stable," Grubjesic told Tanjug.

She assessed that the reaction of Brussels had been expected since their opinion was that the two sides should do something.

"They never made any statement that would be in favor of one side, no matter how obvious things were, but well, the first statement was like that, the second was a little better. However, they realized that the election of Rasic is neither in accordance with the Kosovo constitution, nor in accordance with the democratic procedure, plus it does not contribute to moving things forward", Grubjesic said.

Stating that expectations from Brussels should be lowered, Grubjesic also says that she expects a little more understanding from them for the overall situation, which is very tense.

"Everything that is being done must be in favor of reducing tensions and in favor of maintaining peace and stability," Grubjesic said.

When asked about the announced visit of the EU special envoy for dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, to Belgrade and Pristina, Grubjesic said that she expected him to present clear positions and set a date for the meeting, but she pointed out that the date could not be set before the formation of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities begun.

"It is a prerequisite to continue the dialogue. These are expectations, we will see if that will happen. I am not sure that Lajcak is the one who can force the Pristina side to start forming the CSM, that role should be taken by the US", Grubjesic believes.

When asked whether the US was serious about forcing Pristina to do it, Grubjesic replied that she knew that America was the only one able to do it, and if it was left to the EU, she was afraid, she said, that nothing would come of it.

"But let's give them a chance. It seems that everyone is interested in the continuation of the dialogue, and it will happen if we see that work is being done on the formation of the CSM", Grubjesic explained.

When asked if she expected Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to go to Tirana for the EU-Western Balkans Summit, Grubjesic said that she would understand whether he went or not, but that she was rooting for him to go.

"It is important to be in a place where the future of the region, and therefore the future of Serbia, is debated. I think it would be good for him to be there despite everything, to express his views and fight for them", Grubjesic said.
