Hill: Proposals have been on the table for a while, agreement should be reached as soon as possible
The US Ambassador to Serbia, Christopher Hill, stated today that the proposal for normalizing the relations had been "on the table for a while" and that Belgrade and Pristina should reach an agreement as soon as possible, RTV reported.
"Many things are happening in the world, and I think when it comes to the dialogue, the agreement should be, as Lajcak said, as soon as possible. We know that the elements of the agreement have been on the table for some time. They relate to the Community of Serb Municipalities; they relate to a higher degree of internalization that Kosovo seeks," Hill said.
According to him, everything is quite clear because these elements have been under discussion for a while.
"They were particularly emphasized during the Ohrid meeting. It is really time to speed up and move forward," Hill told journalists when asked whether the US and the EU had set a deadline for reaching an agreement between Belgrade and Pristina.
Hill did not want to comment on the statement by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who said yesterday that Pristina must form the Community of Serb Municipalities and that Belgrade should accept Kosovo's de facto independence.
"I will just say that from my point of view, we are talking about specific elements that are on the table and that we believe have been agreed upon by both sides. The most significant element and the one most important to Serbia is, of course, the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities. There are some other elements, and they relate to Kosovo's desire for more internationalization," Hill said, who officially opened the "Oasis for Pollinators" in the Botanical Garden.
As he pointed out, all these elements need to be defined with a certain degree of precision to avoid misunderstandings when moving on to the implementation phase.
