Jevtic: Concerns about the central government's attitude towards local self-government

President of the Municipality of Strpce, Dalibor Jevtic, emphasized today that they were concerned about the relationship of institutions at the central level of government towards local self-government, of which he was the head, and its citizens. He points out that this leads to the conclusion that it is something that ultimately aims at the complete collapse and sense of existence of local self-government.

Jevtic stated at the session of the Strpce Municipality Assembly that all the demands and conclusions adopted by this institution, which had been sent to the competent authorities in the past period, had remained unanswered.

"Something that causes concern for me is the attitude of institutions, primarily at the central level of government, towards the citizens of the municipality, institutions, and the Municipality Assembly of Strpce itself. In November and the previous period, we adopted certain conclusions and demands, sending them to the addresses in line with what the Municipality Assembly adopted here. We sent them to the addresses of institutions with inquiries and demands, and what concerns me is that we have not received a single response. The ignoring of what we believe are the problems and concerns of citizens gives me the right to conclude that it is something that ultimately aims at the complete collapse and sense of the existence of local self-government," Jevtic said.

As he states, for him, it is not a matter of politics whether this local self-government is led by this or that political party, but for him, it is a matter of the relationship towards the citizens of that municipality.

"In the capacity we have, and I am asking for your support for that, we will democratically fight against it, whether it is regarding the attempts of illegal construction we face, or all other attempts to ignore the interests of the citizens. In every possible way, through democratic methods as legal norms prescribe, we will fight against it," Jevtic said.

Jevtic also expressed concern about the operation of the current management of the Brezovica Ski Center. He reiterated that all the land at the Ski Center was owned by the Municipality of Strpce and its citizens.

"I must say and call on those who currently lead the Brezovica Ski Center to pay close attention to what they are doing and not to think that one day they will not have to answer the questions that they will be asked. The Brezovica Ski Center is, in my deep conviction, a resource of the citizens of the Municipality of Strpce, workers who have been in that ski center for decades, and the interests of both citizens and workers must be protected," he said.

Considering that he heard different opinions at the last meeting held on this topic, Jevtic emphasizes that all the land at the Ski Center is owned by the Municipality of Strpce and its citizens.

"We will use legal means to fight for the fundamental right that exists in all democratic societies, and that is the right to property, to be protected," Jevtic said.

He says that political parties come and go, but these things always remain - the right to property and the right to manage resources in terms of protecting the interests of those to whom these resources belong.

"We are concerned about everything we hear happening daily, and it is particularly worrying that an institution at the central level of government, the ministry that should deal with return issues, and I led that ministry for several years and know very well what the law prescribes and what the competencies of that institution are; it should not deal with the management of the Ski Center; it should not be involved in that," Jevtic said.
