The Mayor of Strpce, Dalibor Jevtic, emphasizes to Kosovo Online that even a year after the attack on Serbian boys Stefan and Milos Stojanovic on Christmas Eve in Gotovusa, the main impression is that injustice is at play and that Serbs as a people are legally unprotected.

Jevtic says that it is his personal feeling, as well as the feeling of his fellow citizens, especially the families of the wounded boys, that a sense of insecurity still exists.

"Even this Christmas, we feel that Serbs as a people are unprotected legally, and when such a situation happens, as it did a year ago, the institutions, not only in terms of punishment but also in preventive action and preventing something similar in the future, are not doing their job the way they should, and I think that is the main impression. I have spoken on this topic several times during 2023 and have been attacked even by the lawyer defending the one who shot Stefan and Milos, and such a public reaction describes well enough the situation and circumstances in which we, as a people, live today," Jevtic said.

He believes that, in the spirit of Christmas, many do not support what happened, but emphasizes that institutions need to be more decisive in enforcing justice.

"I also take this opportunity to call on the relevant institutions to take a good look, analyze, and make the fairest decision because it is not just a decision to punish the perpetrator, but the decision must also have the weight of prevention, to prevent anyone from thinking they can do something like that and get away unpunished. I think that is the main thing that I, the families, and my fellow citizens expect on this matter," Jevtic said.
