Jovanovic: It is important to continue engagement and maintain KFOR’s status-neutral positioning

Serbian Foreign Ministry State Secretary Nevena Jovanovic emphasized, in a conversation with NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General Kevin Hamilton, that it is extremely important for Serbia that the engagement of international security forces in Kosovo continue at an undiminished scope and capacity, conveying the expectation that the KFOR mission will maintain its status-neutral positioning and act proactively in order to preserve security and protect members of the Serbian people in the area.

According to a statement by the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting discussed the partnership cooperation between Serbia and the Alliance, which is being carried out within the framework of the Partnership for Peace program, in line with Serbia’s military neutrality and with the aim of achieving the shared interest of preserving peace and stability in the region.

“Jovanovic particularly stressed that it is extremely important for Serbia that the engagement of international security forces in Kosovo and Metohija continue at an undiminished scope and capacity, conveying our side’s expectation that the KFOR mission will maintain its status-neutral positioning and, in accordance with its mandate, act proactively in order to preserve security and protect members of the Serbian people in the area,” the statement added.

The interlocutors agreed on the importance of the joint Serbia–NATO military exercise being held in Serbia from May 11 to 23.
