Kearns: The British government does not support the formation of the CSM

Member of the British Parliament Alicia Kearns expressed concern about the European plan, considering it insufficiently favorable for Kosovo, and she was particularly concerned, as she pointed out, about the creation of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities, Reporteri reports.

"I am particularly concerned about the enclave proposal because we do not know what it means. We should not encourage ethnic territorialism in this day and age. We must work towards multicultural societies where people respect each other, respect history, and recognize what happened and can build a strong future together," Kearns said for Klan Kosova.

She, however, says that she remains consistent with the position that Kosovo should determine its own path, and pointed out that she supported the government of Kosovo in connection with this agreement.

Speaking about the meetings she had with President Vjosa Osmani, Kearns revealed that she intended to visit Kosovo.

"I had the privilege of talking with the president about the future of Kosovo and its priorities, and it is clear that Kosovo has really strong goals in terms of ambitions for its people. And it is very clear that Kosovo can contribute a lot to the European community," she said.

Kearns pointed out that the British government did not support the formation of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities.

"So, even the British government said that it did not respect or support the proposal to create a Serbian enclave in Kosovo. And I was very pleased when I saw that they supported my question to the ministers," she stressed.

But despite the situation, Kearns says she cannot understand the compromise in the European plan.

"What I failed to determine is where the compromise is in this agreement. It is absolutely right for Kosovo to receive an international agreement and the international recognition it deserves, which it needs because this is how peace is maintained and the conditions for people in Kosovo to live their lives freely," she said.

Kearns added that the British government also wanted to see peace between Serbia and Kosovo, as well as mutual recognition.

"It is very important for Serbia to accept that, if it wants to be a member of the European community, it cannot continue to hold two positions. It must decide whether it wants to be a productive member of the European community, and that means facing its past,” she said.

When it comes to visa liberalization, Kearns said that it was very important for the EU to fulfill its promises to the countries of the Western Balkans.

Kearns once again confirmed that the British delegation supported Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe.

She expressed her hope that Iceland, which currently presided over the Council of Europe until May this year, would ensure that Kosovo became a full member of the European family there.
