Members of KFOR withdrew today from the building of the Municipality of Zvecan.

As stated by KFOR to Kosovo Online, "the situation in the Municipality of Zvecan has stabilized, and as a result, units from the operational reserve battalion of the KFOR mission led by NATO will no longer be present in the municipality building."

"Instead, they will remain in the area and conduct regular patrols to ensure a safe and secure environment for all people living in the Municipality of Zvecan. KFOR continues to fulfill its mandate – based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999 – to provide a safe and secure environment for all communities living in Kosovo and freedom of movement, at all times and impartially. KFOR is the third security responder, following the Kosovo Police and the EU Rule of Law Mission (EULEX), respectively, with whom we work in close cooperation," KFOR stated to Kosovo Online.

There are no KFOR members inside the municipal building, in front of which there is now an armored vehicle of the Kosovo Police, as well as members of the Kosovo Police and special forces.

EULEX members are also present.

KFOR soldiers were deployed in front of the municipal building in Zvecan on May 29, 2023, when clashes occurred with local Serbs who were protesting the arrival of illegitimate mayors in northern Kosovo.

Let’s recall that on January 12, KFOR members withdrew from the precinct of the municipal building in Leposavic.

At that time, KFOR stated that they were adapting to the situation on the ground based on security assessments.
