Koci: I believe the Student List government will approach the dialogue with Kosovo constructively
Analyst Melazim Koci believes that Serbia's new government will approach the dialogue with Kosovo and the Agreement on the Path to Normalisation of Relations between Kosovo and Serbia constructively, but he also says he does not expect any major change of course in the process.
According to Koci, the Student List is quite heterogeneous, and he believes its priority will be consolidating its internal ranks. He noted that it secured victory in the elections by promising to fight corruption, rather than by focusing on foreign policy or Kosovo.
“This is all the more true given that their positions on foreign policy are relatively unclear. Nevertheless, I believe that Kosovo will eventually make its way onto the agenda among these issues. The EU has made it clear to both Belgrade and Pristina that the Franco-German proposal, the Agreement on the Path to Normalisation of Relations between Kosovo and Serbia, is internationally binding. I believe Serbia's new government will approach this proposal and the dialogue with Kosovo constructively. I expect the Kosovo government to take the same approach to the Franco-German proposal. In other words, I do not expect any major change of course, but rather a continuation of the dialogue based on the Franco-German proposal,” Koci said in a written statement to Kosovo Online.
He added that although he was not particularly optimistic, he believed the dialogue would continue in a somewhat more positive atmosphere.
“Following the events in Banjska, relations between Kosovo under Kurti and Serbia under Vucic were extremely tense. I believe the Student List's victory will help ease tensions between the two sides and allow the dialogue to resume,” Koci noted.
