Kosovo Judicial Council to review Haxhiu's request regarding Serb judges' resignations on Friday

The Kosovo Judicial Council (KJC) will hold a session on Friday, with one of the agenda items being the consideration of Acting President of Kosovo Albulena Haxhiu's request regarding the resignations of Serb judges, as well as notifications from judges and judicial staff from the Serb community withdrawing the resignations they submitted in 2022.

The session agenda includes 16 items, with the consideration of the withdrawal of resignations by Serb judges and judicial staff listed as the ninth item, Teve1 reports.

At the previous session, held on July 24, this item was not discussed because the meeting failed due to a lack of quorum.

In a letter sent on June 19, 2026, to KJC Chair Rustem Thaqi, Acting President of Kosovo Albulena Haxhiu requested that the Council finally resolve the issue of the resignations submitted in 2022 by judges and support staff from the Serb community within Kosovo's judicial system.

"Keeping these positions in abeyance for such a long period undermines legal certainty, hampers the full functioning of the judicial system, and affects the efficiency of the competent institutions," the letter states, among other things.

On the other hand, at its session held on July 20, 2026, the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council rejected the withdrawal of resignations by five Serb prosecutors and 15 members of the support staff in the prosecutorial system.

A day later, on July 21, Haxhiu announced that she had signed decrees dismissing seven Serb prosecutors who had submitted their resignations in 2022.

Following the decisions to dismiss the Serb prosecutors, the European Union expressed concern, stating that the move was incompatible with the rule of law because the Serb prosecutors had in the meantime withdrawn their resignations.
