Kosovo Railway Infrastructure with police assistance takes over stations in Zvecan and Leposavic

Kosovo police, with several special unit jeeps, blocked access to the railway station in Zvecan this morning, and shortly afterward a Kosovo flag and a sign reading “Kosovo Railway Infrastructure” were placed in front of the offices belonging to Serbian Railways. At almost the same time, members of “Infrakos” took over the railway station in the municipality of Leposavic.

Police officers in Zvecan stated that they had assisted in the takeover of the station building.

Several police and armored jeeps are still located in front of and around the building.

The premises were visited by ministers in the technical mandate of the Kosovo government, Dimal Basha, Xhelal Svecla, and Artana Rizvanolli.

In a statement to the media, Svecla said that this was the takeover of another, as he described it, “parallel institution of Serbia in Kosovo,” and added that Kosovo plans to adapt and restart the operation of this station.

“This is part of our network and, as emphasized by the Minister of Infrastructure, this will also be part of the reconstruction projects for the entire railway network of the Republic of Kosovo,” Svecla said.

Asked by Kosovo Online whether this was part of the election campaign officially beginning today in Kosovo, Svecla said that law and order must be present everywhere.

“This is part of our duty to ensure that law and order are present everywhere, in every part of the Republic of Kosovo. This is one of the last institutions still operating under Serbia’s parallel illegal structures, and we will continue to act if we find any illegal, parallel, unlawful institution on the territory of Kosovo,” he stated.

After the sign was replaced and the flag installed, the ministers and most of the police left, while one police vehicle remained on site securing the area.

At around eight o’clock, in the municipality of Leposavic, with the assistance of Kosovo Police, members of “Infrakos” took over the railway station, where they placed the company’s sign and the Kosovo flag.

On the bilingual sign, Leposavic was written in Serbian as “Leposavič.”

One worker was present at the scene and, after the officials arrived, he took his belongings and left the station premises.

For now, there is no further information regarding additional activities or possible reactions from the competent institutions. “Infrakos” is Kosovo’s railway company.
