Kovacevski: Waving the flag of a "Greater Albania" during Kurti's visit is a scandal
The Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Dimitar Kovacevski, said that the waving of the flag of a "Greater Albania" during the visit of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, to Tetovo and Chair was a scandal, that he immediately condemned it and that the procedure to find those responsible had already been initiated.
Kovacevski also said that Kurti "was used by the mayors of Chair and Tetovo, Visar Ganiu and Bilal Kasami, for their daily political goals.
"After the open discussion, you saw the statements; all the countries of the Western Balkans must cooperate with each other. Here they started talking about big states. There are two countries here that are a part of the largest NATO alliance. In the Balkans, archaic notions from the time of national-romanticism, about big states, are a thing of the past. That's what the US Ambassador in Kosovo said, and that's what the Secretary General of NATO and another politician of that rank will tell you," the Macedonian Prime Minister said.
Given that the legal provisions for displaying national symbols and the Macedonian anthem had not been respected at the gatherings organized during Kurti's visit, Kovacevski added that according to the law, and not according to political will, proceedings were being initiated against the organizers of those events.
Criminal charges were filed against the mayors of Chair and Tetovo for not complying with regulations on displaying state symbols during Kurti's visit.
