Krasniqi: The international community was informed about the closure of illegal institutions
Minister of Administration and Local Government Elbert Krasniqi stated today that Kosovo's international partners had been informed about the action of the Kosovo police and the closure of Serbian institutions in the north, adding that, after so many years, "this should not come as a surprise anymore," Reporteri reported.
"From my perspective as a minister, it is unacceptable that parallel municipalities operate on the territory of Kosovo... Their closure after 24 years should honestly not even be a topic; on the contrary, it should be problematic if we continue to allow them to operate there. There is no room for Serbian institutions in Kosovo. This should be clear to everyone. It is a legal and constitutional obligation, and it is our mandate to support our legitimate institutions there," Krasniqi said for RTK.
According to him, the Government of Kosovo is in coordination with the international community.
"I understand the need for coordination, and I believe we have that coordination. Everyone has been informed about the actions that will be taken, but there is no argument as to why they should be allowed to operate on the territory of Kosovo. It’s absurd," Krasniqi said.
He stated that the vacated buildings will be used for the needs of the local residents.
"These five illegal institutions in the north have already been closed, joining others that were previously shut down through joint actions of Kosovo’s institutions," Krasniqi said.
He also mentioned that the vacated buildings are mostly owned by Kosovo municipalities and that there is already an institution planned to operate in one of the vacated buildings – the Regional Driver Training Center.
"We are already working at both the local and central levels to meet the needs of the citizens as closely as possible," Krasniqi added.
