Political analyst Shkelzen Maliqi emphasizes that the negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina in Brussels are routine, noting that “the dialogue has been frozen for two years.” However, he believes there is still time to resolve matters.

In a statement for Kosovo Online, Maliqi said that during the Brussels dialogue, the same old debate is taking place over what carries more weight, the Community of Serb Municipalities or the issue of missing persons.

“It is a somewhat routine meeting. The teams working on this, the European side and so on, have to do something. The dialogue has been practically frozen for two years, and the new team is preparing for the field. There is still time to resolve things. A meeting was scheduled to address the missing, but then current topics started in Brussels: what takes priority – the Community or the missing persons. That’s the old story, nothing has changed. We are just waiting for elections, which are in a month, and the Community and everything else can only be formed once a new government is in place. But if we again face blockages like we have seen with the general elections, it is completely uncertain where we are headed. I think the European Union has no other option, unless there are some major geostrategic agreements, because everything is changing on the global stage,” Maliqi said.

He interprets the opposition’s challenge to Besnik Bislimi’s role in Brussels as proof that he cannot perform a “double function,” both as deputy prime minister and as a member of parliament.

“The opposition believes that he is actually usurping positions, because under the Law and the Constitution, the law sponsored by Kurti’s own government, you cannot hold two positions, being in government and in executive bodies, while also being an MP. He has to choose one. This back-and-forth has been going on for seven months now,” he concluded.
