Mazreku: We cannot be allowed to have a position contrary to the American one
Professor of European law Avni Mazreku assesses that the “Kurti 3” government will seek to find common positions with the United States that require joint actions and their coordination.
“The course of political positions related to open issues, when it comes from the American context, is viewed differently than European currents and those more broadly. I think that both sides will find common points where their positions are synchronized and will function as one,” Mazreku told Kosovo Online.
He assesses that interpretations suggesting the removal of the American role from Europe are not based on facts.
“The United States remains important, especially regarding issues related to the Baltic states, the new NATO members, the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, the Bosphorus Strait connected to access to the Mediterranean Sea, and the Adriatic Sea, which is linked to another major European route, namely the Balkans. Therefore, I do not think it can be allowed for us to hold positions contrary to American positions,” Mazreku says.
He adds that one can also see the alignment of the Serbian state with American and NATO positions.
“I understand the sentiment of the Serbian people toward NATO, given that it is known NATO bombed Serbia in 1999. But that came as a result of acts of ethnic cleansing on a genocidal scale. I think and believe that it is in the interest of the Serbian people to recognize the new reality, namely the recognition of Kosovo. That would be the fairest position in relation to the interests of the Serbian people, given that numerous investments in the Western Balkans are expected after political issues are resolved,” the professor believes.
