Merz congratulates Kurti on re-election: Progress in dialogue with Serbia remains essential

German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz congratulated Albin Kurti on his re-election as Prime Minister of Kosovo and said that substantial progress in the European Union-facilitated dialogue on the normalization of relations with Serbia remained essential.

In his congratulatory message, Merz referred to the months of political uncertainty, noting that the period had posed a major challenge for Kosovo and assessing that Kurti’s confirmation in office created an opportunity to resolve outstanding institutional issues and advance reforms.

“Your confirmation in office offers an opportunity to build bridges across party lines, resolve the remaining institutional issues and advance reforms,” Merz said in his letter, Ljajmi reports.

He also said that Germany continued to stand firmly by Kosovo.

“We share a special friendship with the people of Kosovo,” Merz said.
