Momirovic: Blockade of Serbian goods in Kosovo is severing ties between Serbs and Albanians
Tomislav Momirovic, the Minister of Domestic and Foreign Trade in the Government of Serbia, states that due to the blockade of Serbian goods in Kosovo, which has been ongoing for five consecutive months, Serbian companies have suffered economic damage, and people in Kosovo have been brought to the point of struggling for survival. He emphasizes that the biggest problem caused by this decision of the Kosovo institutions is the severing of ties between Serbs and Albanians.
"Even during the war and in the worst circumstances for this region, Serbs and Albanians traded, and there were business connections. Serbian entrepreneurs were helping some Albanian families, and on the other hand, Albanian entrepreneurs were assisting some Serbian families. This should be the foundation from which everything starts—trade, the economy, and the growth of economic standards. This should be the basis, and that's the European Union," Momirovic stated for Kosovo Online.
Pointing out that the ban on goods from Serbia to Kosovo has been continuous for five months but has practically been in place for two years, Momirovic highlights that Kosovo institutions constantly engage in boycott actions.
"This has caused significant economic damage to both Serbian companies and the Albanian population, which has to buy products at higher prices. But, most importantly, and what's worse, these ties between Serbs and Albanians are being severed," he said.
Momirovic says that in this way, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti is breaking the ties between Serbs and Albanians, unified market, the free movement of people and goods. As he emphasizes, Kurti has a destructive policy and has been trying to provoke a destructive conflict for months.
"I don't know if people in Europe see this; they surely do. We have to stop this practice," the Serbian minister emphasizes.
He stresses that Kosovo lacks the basic necessities for life—medicines and essential food.
"We're not talking about ordinary goods, but basic necessities for the survival of every family. They have isolated that environment, goods are coming in very slowly, people are struggling for survival economically and existentially, they are under constant threat of ethnic cleansing for months, maybe even years, and it is time to put an end to this story," Momirovic concluded.
