Muhaxhiri: Rama is not the right caliber to lead the Democratic League of Kosovo
Analyst Artan Muhaxhiri said that Perparim Rama is not the right caliber to lead the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), arguing that he lacks the conceptual framework needed to lead the party and that he is a postmodern politician, which is not suitable for a traditional party such as the LDK.
Muhaxhiri told Kosovo Online that the LDK is facing many problems due to its poor election results, while the party's leader, Lumir Abdixhiku, is unwilling to change his approach.
"However, other important figures within the LDK are no longer willing to accept this approach and this style of party leadership, while Vjosa Osmani's return has not produced the major positive results that were expected. That is why we are now seeing major problems within the LDK, and they will continue because the sides are not prepared to compromise, so this deterioration in relations will continue," Muhaxhiri said.
Commenting on media reports that the current Mayor of Pristina, Perparim Rama, could replace Abdixhiku as party leader, Muhaxhiri said he does not believe Rama is the right caliber to lead the LDK.
"The LDK is a very important party with a long tradition dating back to the late 1980s. It has been present throughout every chapter of Kosovo's recent history and continues to wield considerable influence. I do not think Rama has the conceptual framework needed to lead the party. He is a kind of postmodern leader, which is not suitable for a traditional party like the LDK. He has not brought about major positive changes in Pristina. He has won twice, but I believe he won mainly because his opponents were weak and the other political parties, especially Self-Determination, did not invest much in their election campaigns. Kurti did not invest in Pristina four years ago, nor did he do so last year," the analyst said.
According to Muhaxhiri, Perparim Rama does not have many major projects he can be proud of or use as a model for governing Kosovo if he were to become LDK leader and, potentially, its candidate for prime minister.
In his view, the LDK now needs a politician with authority and experience who can bridge the deep divisions within the party.
"I do not think Perparim Rama is the person who could do that. In fact, he does not have good relations either with Abdixhiku or with the other faction in the party, so the LDK is facing a very difficult period in the near future," Muhaxhiri said.
