Muhaxhiri: Unification of the right wing in Kosovo unrealistic, divisions among leaders enormous
Political analyst from Pristina, Artan Muhaxhiri, assessed that the idea of the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, about a large unification of the right wing is a good opportunity but, as he told Kosovo Online, difficult to achieve.
Muhaxhiri emphasized that there are deep divisions among right-wing political parties in Kosovo, which make any joint action difficult.
“I think this is an unrealistic idea. I do not think there is any chance that the Kosovo right wing will unite, come together, and create a political bloc or front, because the divisions among them are enormous. This was shown last year when they were forced to unite and oppose Prime Minister Albin Kurti, but they did not do so. They remained divided, and Prime Minister Kurti won with 51 percent precisely due to the lack of unity within the opposition, including the right-wing parties,” he said.
According to him, such unification requires a clear platform and plan, which currently do not exist.
“This is more wishful thinking than reality,” he assessed.
He added that it would be good if something like that were to happen, because it would create a large bloc capable of more meaningfully and strongly opposing Prime Minister Kurti and the Self-Determination.
“In the current situation, other political parties – the Democratic Party of Kosovo, the Democratic League of Kosovo, and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo – are very weak compared to the 51 percent held by Prime Minister Kurti and Self-Determination. For example, it could be like in the United States, where you have Democrats and Republicans – just two large blocs,” Muhaxhiri pointed out.
He reiterated that this would be desirable, but not realistic, given, as he says, the approaches of the leaders and their desire to be number one.
“Each of them would have to be the leader of that bloc, which is impossible, and because of that I do not think it is feasible. I do not see many chances for it to happen,” Muhaxhiri concluded.
