Mustafa: Self-Determination has turned the Assembly into a circus

Democratic Party of Kosovo MP Arben Mustafa said that the messages sent by caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti to PDK leader Bedri Hamza were merely an act and that the PDK had understood Kurti's game, which is why, he said, it would now turn to the Constitutional Court. He described yesterday's developments in parliament as a "shameful scenario orchestrated by Kurti and unscrupulously carried out by Albulena Haxhiu and Arbërie Nagavci," Gazeta Express reported.

"It is just his act, and it does not impress us. We have seen how willing he is to find a solution, we have understood his game, and we will not take part in it. The path we will now take leads to the Constitutional Court," Mustafa said.

He added that Kosovo had not "functioned as a normal state" for two years.

"Regarding the election of deputy speakers of the Assembly, they violated a court decision and decided to arbitrarily determine the way the deputy speakers would be elected, and this was part of the plan to create a deadlock. With this deadlock, Albin Kurti is only accommodating those who wanted to see a dysfunctional state, those who do not wish Kosovo well," Mustafa said.

As he added, Kurti's behavior serves only his personal ambitions for power and he disregards the needs of the citizens of Kosovo, Gazeta Express reported.

"There is no functioning Assembly, only a government that is accountable to no one and subject to no oversight, as well as a state run by acting officials who are absolutely accountable to no one. Kosovo has not functioned as a normal state for two years," Mustafa stressed.

He also said that Kurti "lacks sensitivity" when it comes to September 16, the date when the verdict against KLA leaders is due to be handed down in The Hague, as well as other important dates, including February 17, 2008.

"We will not be part of this endless circus. We wanted to ensure that Kosovo had an Assembly before September 16. Kurti is in no hurry to ensure that Kosovo has an Assembly. It is the same logic applied when appointing committee chairs, when they say, 'We will not vote for this committee chair because he criticized Albin Kurti.' That is a perverse logic of obstruction. We have a party leader who spends all his energy looking for weaknesses in the system, bias and different interpretations of the Constitution," Mustafa added.

He pointed out that Self-Determination had shown no willingness to reach an agreement or continue with the constitution of the Assembly.

"All possible deadlines have deliberately been missed. They come out as winners in every election, yet we still have no institutions. Only the excuses change, while the result remains the same. Kurti lacks the will to ensure the normal functioning of the state," Mustafa said.

He said that yesterday's events in parliament were a "shameful scenario orchestrated by Albin Kurti and unscrupulously carried out by Albulena Haxhiu and Arberie Nagavci."

"The session was convened outside the constitutional framework, but we took part because we want to provide the country with institutions and a functioning Assembly – especially with September 16 approaching. We were faced with a shameful scenario surrounding the game over the election of deputy speakers of parliament, an issue that was never about the voting itself. Deputy speakers represent parliamentary groups. This game, orchestrated by Albin Kurti and unscrupulously carried out by Haxhiu and Nagavci, shows that this party has turned the Assembly into a circus," Mustafa said.
