Office for Kosovo and Metohija: Albanian man beat Sveta Ilic because he tried to protect his son

Sveta Ilic from the village of Binac in the Kosovo Pomoravlje region suffered a brutal attack by a local Albanian man while trying to protect his son, the Office for Kosovo and Metohija stated.

“This incident was preceded by a verbal, and then physical attack by a man of Albanian nationality on Sveta Ilic’s son. When the father approached to protect his son, the man took a wooden object and struck him several times, after which he fled, while the injured man was transported to the hospital for stitches and treatment of his injuries. The case has been reported to the police,” the statement reads.

Representatives of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija are on the ground and in contact with the Ilic family, and as stated, they will visit them to speak and offer support.

“The Ilic family is a peaceful household that does not provoke anyone, and this is not the first time they have had problems with the same man of Albanian nationality who lives near their home. So far he has mostly verbally attacked them, and this time he physically assaulted the head of the family, which is why they are now justifiably concerned for their safety. This clearly points to an increasingly sensitive security situation in Kosovo and Metohija and to more frequent and more aggressive attacks on Serbs. The case occurred in the midst of an election campaign, when Albin Kurti and his associate Nenad Rasic, through their actions and rhetoric, as stated, are fueling an atmosphere of intolerance toward the Serbian people, which, according to the same statement, encourages extremists and offenders who then see Serbs as legitimate targets,” the statement says.

It is further stated that for this reason it is even more important for the Serbian people in Kosovo to show unity and solidarity, because only in this way can they withstand the challenges and, through legitimate representatives of the Serbian people, embodied in the Serb List, fight for rights and justice.
