Vice-President of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians, Balint Pasztor said this evening for Kosovo Online that the meeting between President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Viktor Orban was another in a series of confirmations that Serbia had no better ally than Hungary, stressing that the Hungarian Government was doing everything to ensure the safety of the Serbs in Kosovo be raised to a higher level.

"This is an extremely important meeting, given that it is only one in a series of meetings. And this meeting confirms that Serbia does not have a stronger ally than Hungary, nor does Hungary have a closer ally than Serbia, regardless of the fact that Hungary is a part of the EU, and Serbia is not," Pasztor said, on the occasion of today's meeting between Vucic and Orban in Budapest, in light of the situation and tensions in Kosovo.

Pasztor emphasized that Prime Minister Orban had shown that Serbia could count on Hungary regarding complex issues such as the situation in Kosovo.

According to him, Hungary is an ally of Serbia when it comes to the protection of the Serbs in Kosovo, but it is also support when it comes to voting in international organizations.

"Hungary did recognize the independence of Kosovo, but in the last ten years, since Viktor Orban has been the Prime Minister of Hungary, a lot has been done in that regard. Serbia can always count on Hungary when it comes to voting on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija and the position of the Serbs in various international organizations. So this meeting today is a confirmation that the two countries can count on each other in all fields," Pasztor said.

Hungary, he estimates, can influence the situation in the north of Kosovo and contribute to raising the security to a higher level.

He reminds that the Hungarian Prime Minister repeats this position during every meeting with Serbian officials.

"Hungary can influence the situation in the north, regardless of the fact that Hungary is not, to put it diplomatically, a favorite of Brussels, but it is still a member of the EU, and Viktor Orban has repeatedly when he was in Belgrade or Subotica, and also in Budapest when the statesmen of the two countries meet there, always let everyone know that the position of the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija is an important issue for the Hungarians and the Government and that they are trying by all possible means to ensure that the security of the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija is at a higher level," Pasztor said.

Also, numerous joint infrastructure projects, he adds, prove that the relationship between Serbia and Hungary is not based only on words.
