Petkovic: If Kurti stops the use of the dinar, it will be clear he doesn't want peace
Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, stated that in recent days, discussions had been held with numerous international representatives regarding pressing issues and the survival of the Serbian people in Kosovo, due to the numerous escalatory and violent actions taken by Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, "aimed at expelling them, abolishing dialogue, and implementing his 'Greater Albanian policy'."
"At yesterday's meeting with Lajcak, we conveyed Belgrade's serious concerns regarding the difficult position and situation of the Serbian people, not only north but also south of the Ibar River, especially in light of the message from Albin Kurti and the authorities in Pristina to abolish the dinar and Serbia's payment transactions in the territory of Kosovo," Petkovic said.
He emphasized that at all meetings with representatives of the international community, discussions also focused on numerous incidents and attacks on the Serbian people, which were the result of the anti-Serb rhetoric promoted by Pristina.
According to Resolution 1244, as he pointed out, Pristina has no right to the KSF nor to special units present in northern Kosovo, as clearly stated in the Brussels Agreement. He stated that Belgrade would continue its diplomatic battle to preserve peace, regardless of everything.
"Serbia will do everything to preserve the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija, and we will continue with our strong diplomatic battle within the dialogue framework to maintain peace," Petkovic emphasized.
He believes that Pristina's decision to abolish the dinar is the latest blow to the Serbian people in Kosovo.
"We are dealing with a man who is doing everything to continue with escalatory processes," Petkovic warned.
He added that President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic had insisted in meetings with representatives of the international community on the formation of the CSM to ensure the rights of the Serbian people and added that Serbia advocated for new elections in the four municipalities in northern Kosovo.
Commenting on the Quint's statement about the abolition of the dinar in Kosovo, Petkovic expressed confidence that this issue would be resolved. He pointed out that it was not the first time they had read different statements from the Quint opposing Pristina's unlawful decisions, and that it had usually ended with warnings.
"This time, the statement is different, we will see. We have done everything to explain to everyone the catastrophic consequences of abolishing the dinar and that it is a matter of the survival of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija. If Kurti does not stop this and starts dealing with the Serbian Post, it will be clear that this man does not want peace," Petkovic assessed.
He emphasized that Serbia would stand by its people and continue to resolve this issue so that no Serb was endangered.
