Petkovic: Kurti seeking to sow division among Serbs through Rasic, people respond with unity
The Director of the Serbian Government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, stated that the recent snap elections once again confirmed the strong and increasingly pronounced unity of the Serbian people in Kosovo, despite what he described as the continuous pressure and persecution exerted by the regime of Albin Kurti, Newsmax Balkans reports.
He stressed that the the Serb List had demonstrated responsibility and concern for the Serbian people, recalling that it has faced various forms of pressure for years.
“Faced with Albin Kurti’s campaign of pressure and everything that has taken place over the past five years, including an election campaign marked by numerous forms of intimidation, the Serb List and the Serbian people responded with unity and solidarity,” Petkovic said during the Stav nedelje (“Position of the Week”) programme on Newsmax Balkans television.
According to him, the election results clearly show that Serbs in Kosovo place their trust in the Serb List.
Petkovic also criticized certain political actors, claiming that there are “so-called political parties” that do not represent the interests of the Serbian people. As an example, he cited Nenad Rasic, whom he accused of supporting the policies of the authorities in Pristina and of having no connection with the interests of Serbs in Kosovo.
He assessed that Albin Kurti is attempting to use Rasic to create divisions among Serbs, but argued that such efforts have not produced the desired results.
“The Serbian people’s response has been ever stronger and greater unity,” Petkovic stated, adding that the Serb List won significantly more votes in the latest elections than in the previous electoral cycle, while support for Rasic declined.
Speaking about Rasic’s role, Petkovic said that the Serbian people had recognized what he described as Rasic’s cooperation with Kurti and actions directed against the interests of Serbs in Kosovo.
He further claimed that certain decisions by the authorities in Pristina, including the entry of the Kosovo Police into Serbian institutions and the establishment of police bases in northern Kosovo, had been taken with Rasic’s support and had undermined the position of the Serbian community.
Petkovic concluded that, despite all pressures, the Serbian people would continue to demonstrate unity and determination in defending their interests in Kosovo.
