Petkovic: Kurti’s statements are inaccurate, the solution regarding the Law on Foreigners does not mean integration of Serbian institutions

Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, stated that Albin Kurti’s interpretations that the European solution for the Law on Foreigners implies the integration of the Serbian education and healthcare system in Kosovo are incorrect, which, he emphasizes, was unequivocally confirmed by the dialogue mediator Peter Sorensen in Pristina, calling on Kurti to respect the agreements reached.

“We know very well what Kurti’s policy is and that his goal is a takeover of our educational and healthcare institutions, but the agreed European solution has prevented such a scenario and it has been made unequivocally clear that there is an obligation for Pristina to respect the agreements reached, among which the most important is the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities,” Petkovic said in a statement.

He pointed out that reality refutes Kurti’s statements, and that Brussels recognizes the need for the uninterrupted functioning of Serbian healthcare and education, and thus also of the Serbian University in Kosovo.

“No one has any doubts or is under any illusion about what Kurti’s intention was and what he would have done on March 15, however all harmful plans have been thwarted, because the functioning of the Serbian education and healthcare system is a matter of survival for the Serbian people. Any kind of integration that Pristina speaks of directly calls into question the survival of these vital institutions in Kosovo and Metohija and would have catastrophic consequences for our people in these areas, which is why it is absolutely unacceptable,” Petkovic noted.

According to him, such statements by Kurti are caused by the pressure he is under in Pristina.

“What Kurti is saying today is part of his political campaign and serves for internal political use aimed at ‘damage control’, as he has come under attack from the entire Pristina public,” Petkovic added.

Earlier today, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated, regarding the agreement on the Law on Foreigners, that his government did not want to leave Serbian patients without services or Serbian students without education, but that the goal is to include all structures within the framework of Kosovo’s legality and constitutionality.
