Petkovic meets with Krois: Protection of Human Rights of Serbs in Kosovo, de-escalation, and the formation of the CSM are absolute priorities

The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, met today with the Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Office in Belgrade, Dominique Krois, and informed her about the endangered human rights of the Serbian people in Kosovo due to Pristina’s unilateral and violent actions, as well as about the current course of the Belgrade–Pristina dialogue.
Petkovic told Krois that since Albin Kurti came to power, there have been 650 ethnically motivated incidents against the Serbian population in Kosovo and against the Serbian Orthodox Church, along with more than 50 escalatory moves by Pristina that directly undermine peace and raise tensions in the area and the broader region—hence Belgrade’s insistence on urgent de-escalation.
"The authorities in Pristina are systematically taking escalatory, violent, unlawful, and unilateral actions aimed at creating unbearable conditions for the Serbian population in Kosovo and Metohija, with the goal of ethnically cleansing them. As a result of such actions, over 20 percent of Serbs have left northern Kosovo and Metohija, while Kurti’s illegitimate mayors are accelerating anti-Serb policies ahead of the upcoming local elections. Therefore, the protection of the human rights of Serbs, de-escalation on the ground, and the formation of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities (CSM) must be absolute priorities,” emphasized Petkovic.
He expressed regret that Pristina uses the Brussels dialogue format as a platform for political confrontation rather than as a mechanism for normalization, compromise, and peaceful coexistence.
Despite Pristina's obstructions, Belgrade will continue to act responsibly and remain committed to preserving peace and stability in the region, while defending the interests of the Serbian people, Petkovic concluded.
At the end of the meeting, Petkovic thanked his interlocutor for her efforts to uphold UN Security Council Resolution 1244, which Pristina seeks to undermine, as well as for her principled and status-neutral stance and respect for the norms of international law.
