Petkovic: The Serbs will decide their national destiny, not Kurti or any foreign factor

The director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija of the Government of Serbia, Petar Petkovic, said that the oath-taking of the newly elected mayors in the municipalities in the north of Kosovo had formalized the Pristina occupation of those four municipalities, adding that there had probably never been an election in the history of democracy with such an insignificant turnout and that those who set the standards of democracy in the modern world recognized the results of such elections.

"Kurti's Gauleiter, disguised as mayors, took their oaths today, which formalized the occupation of four municipalities in the north of Kosovo and Metohija by Pristina," Petkovic stressed in a statement.

He pointed out that it was clear that "that act of rape of democracy and human rights" is the responsibility of Albin Kurti, whom he says is a Great Albanian ideologue and anti-Serbian chauvinist.

"But part of the international community, which, guided by short-sighted geopolitical interests, decided to suspend the political rights of the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, is also to blame," he added.

Petkovic says that occupation has never been a permanent situation in history, so it will not be like that in the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo and Metohija.

He adds that this occupation will also be ended soon.

"However, longer than Kurti's occupation, the Serbs will remember the shameful way in which the false luminaries of modern democracy gave the green light for such a thing. The Serbs never received freedom as a gift in the past but always fought for it with their own determination and national unity, and now, when all the masks have fallen and the hypocrisy of part of the international community has become completely exposed, the Serbs will be the ones who will decide on their national destiny, not Albin Kurti or any foreign factor," he pointed out.

The Director of the Office adds that the Serbs will survive this unprecedented situation in modern European peacetime history by continuing to fight with all their might for peace and respect for international law.

As he says, he is convinced that the Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija will remain more united than ever, because apart from their own state of Serbia and their own determination, they have no other defense against the oppression they are exposed to.

Lulzim Hetemi, let's remind you, the new mayor of Leposavic, who took the oath today, won 100 votes in the elections held on April 23, in which only slightly more than three percent of registered voters turned out and which were boycotted by the Serbs. llir Peci, the new mayor of Zvecan, won 114 votes in the elections, while Izmir Zeqiri won 197 votes.

Only 1,567 out of about 40,000 voters participated in the elections in four municipalities in the north of Kosovo.

Erden Atic, the new mayor of North Mitrovica took the oath on May 19, and he was elected with 553 votes.
