Petrovic and Obrenovic sentenced to six months in prison; the punishment commuted to a fine
Rados Petrovic and Dusan Obrenovic, who were arrested on May 29th during a protest in Zvecan, have been sentenced to six months in prison for the criminal offense of "Participation in a crowd committing criminal acts or hooliganism." After Petrovic admitted guilt, his sentence was commuted to a fine of 6,000 euros, while Obrenovic has already served six months in detention.
Rados Petrovic's defense lawyer, Asdren Hoxha, emphasized that Petrovic and Obrenovic had initially been charged with four criminal offenses, "Attack on the constitutional order," "Attack on international personnel under international protection," "Attack on official persons," and "Participation in a crowd committing criminal acts or hooliganism". However, three criminal charges were dismissed during the investigation, and a plea agreement was reached for the fourth charge.
"Today, we had the initial hearing regarding the indictment of the Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo regarding the events of May 29th last year in front of the Zvecan municipality. As you know, in that incident, Rados Petrovic and Dusan Obrenovic were arrested and were initially suspected of four criminal offenses, which was a very serious situation at the beginning. For the Attack on the constitutional order, attack on international personnel under international protection, namely KFOR, attack on official persons, and as the fourth offense in the fourth point, Participation in a crowd committing criminal acts or hooliganism. We managed during the investigation to dismiss three more serious criminal offenses in this case, and only the one remained, which is indeed the case that they were at the protest and that the protest escalated, resulting in the commission of the criminal offense of hooliganism, an attack on KFOR soldiers. So, we agreed to conclude a plea agreement for that offense, point 4 from article 404 of the Criminal Code of Kosovo," Hoxha vs.
"The agreement was reached on January 29th this year," Hoxha emphasized.
"The indictment arrived in court along with the plea agreement, which the court accepted. As for Rados Petrovic, it's six months of imprisonment commuted to a fine, and as for Dusan Obrenovic, he has already served his sentence," Hoxha stated.
Petrovic spent 30 days in detention before being released pending trial, while Obrenovic spent six months in detention.
